While doing a search for something completely unrelated I found this house tour over at Marcus Design blog... The house tour is certainly fun (very OTT hollywood regency), it was the before and after that caught my eye.
Before the room was traditional and neutral, featuring traditional furniture pieces and layered window treatments.
And after! Quite the transformation, right? The biggest structural change I can spot is the new fireplace but apart from that this transformation has been achieved through decorating.
It's amazing what can be achieved with new window treatments, walls and furniture! This room really highlights the difference window treatments in particular can make to a space. As much as I love a beautiful curtain, in this space the curtains make the room feel smaller, while the roman blinds (beautiful fabric by the way!) make the space feel much cleaner and more open.
That said, the new style might not be too your taste. Which room do you prefer?

Hi Anna, I am back, thanks for your message. I love both rooms but the after has the real wow & I agree the roman blinds is a great improvement. Although I didn't think the before window treatment was bad. KP
ReplyDeleteI actually preferred the old room. There are elements I love about the new look but they seem to jar with one another – the curtains are my favourite but to me, they seem out of place. I could see myself being able to relax with a good book in the older room (and I fell hard for that beautiful fireplace). I can’t believe the transformation!
ReplyDeleteΙ prefer the "after" as my style is more of a contemporary. Plus, I'm a sucker for grey!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a transformation! I like the second room better; I love the darker palette and more contemporary decor.

Wow what a difference. I love both rooms but can see the blinds have made a huge difference. I also think the darker paint colour shows up that the walls aren't plastered. Beautiful rooms:)
